Newsletter January 2011

Dear Parents/Carers,

I am delighted to announce that today the school has had confirmation of last year’s achievement at A Level. The National League tables have verified that the school’s ‘Value Added’ figure of 1059.6 has placed our school as the top performing, state funded, mixed comprehensive in Britain.

The school is in the top 15 when independent schools are also included.

The performance is truly outstanding as it represents the individual progress made by every one of our students.

I would like to offer my personal congratulations and thanks to the students, staff, governors and parents who all contributed to this exceptional performance. The result is an accurate reflection of these efforts and is richly deserved.

Yours sincerely,
Best wishes.

Martin Williams
Headteacher

Christmas Hampers

The Christmas hampers were very successful.  The hard working Production Team beautifully packaged the boxes of goodies, and a group of Year 11 students and their Year 7 assistants delivered 21 finished hampers around Corsham on the last day of term, just as the snow began to fall!  A big ‘thank you’ to all parents, students and staff who donated items so generously – it was very much appreciated by the recipients!  The school has received a number of very grateful thank you letters.  Donations were so generous that we also delivered items to Hungerford House and the Salvation Army.  Next year’s target – 30 hampers?

 Foreign Language Team

Kilve Court by Alexander Garrett Year 8

On the 10-12 of December I went on a French residential course to Kilve Court, in Somerset.
It was mainly focusing on increasing our knowledge of how French works (phonics, sentence structure etc.).
First of all we were allocated our rooms (if you are going with someone from Corsham who is the same gender as you, you should be allocated to the same room as them.)
Secondly we played a few ice-breaking games and were put into groups and given a tutor.
The next day we had five lessons with each of the tutors, focusing on different parts of the French language. Then we went on a big walk to Kilve beach and when we got back wrote a poem about our walk in French.
Then on the end of the last day we put together a presentation to all of the parents. It could have been a poem, a song or an argument about whether Santa exists or not.I really enjoyed the course and learnt much from it. I would definitely recommend it to anybody who is interested in languages.
