In 2010 the sun was shining and the grass was perfect for Hockey. However this year we had rain, rain and then some more rain. The grass was fine but soon turned into a mud bath which I’m sure most of the children enjoyed really!
This was the first festival of the 2011 and included some new faces for refereeing and scoring. Matthew King M10, Kyle Hayden H10, Billy Hedges O10 and Ashley King C10 all stepped into the Sports Leaders role for the first time. They did a great job organising and refereeing the matches for over 100 primary school children. These year 10 sports leaders were supported by two year 11s Adam Mitchell and Stephanie Law.
Ten teams entered this year from our cluster schools which included; Corsham Primary, Corsham Regis Primary, Neston Primary, Lypiatt Primary and Colerne Primary. Due to the weather and number of teams we played a knockout competition and considering the conditions they all played fantastically and even had time for some fun fixtures for those teams who did not make it through the 3 rounds.
Colerne Primary and a combined team of Neston Primary and Lypiatt Primary made it through to the finals where Colerne, who had scored several goals in each of their qualifying games, continue their march forward to score once again and over powered their opponents convincingly. Well done to both for working so hard to reach the final. Colerne will go forward to represent the Mid Wilts Schools at the county Finals on Friday 18th March.
STATO FACTS – There were 29 goals in the afternoon, over 100 children, 6 Sports Leader, 5 whistles, 2 pitches, 1 trophies, several dodgy ref decisions, 100s of smiling faces and no official injuries…
Thank you to all the Sports Leaders, Teachers and Parents who supported this event!
